The Jackals News

31/10/11- We are pleased to announce that Richard Flanders has joined the band as our new bass player. Richard is a highly talented and experienced musician and we look forward to new musical flavour and dynamism that Richard will inject into the music. Richard’s experience will allow us to expand our set and to offer up some new tracks.

10/10/11 – We are sorry to announce that Phil Clarke to leave the Jackals for his own reasons and we wish him every success with his new ventures.

30/08/2011 – Sorry there has been no news for a while, but The Jackals have been enjoying a summer break, but there are a couple of items:

The gig at The North Star in Staines that was psotponed from October, has been re-arranged for March next year. See the gig guide for details.

Unfortunately The Jackals will not be appearing at Brightona this year – Steve and Jez have work commitments and are both abroad so we have had to decline.

We are on the hunt for some more gigs, so more news when there is some!

10/07/2011 – New Gig!!  The Jackals have a short notice new gig at The Pilgrim, Kennington Lane, in the bright lights of  south east London! A new venue for us, just around the corner from the Oval cricket ground and generally a very busy place – we hope it will become a regular spot for us. Unfortunately Phil is on holiday in Welsh Wales so Adrian Marshall will be our guest on bass guitar for the evening.

04/06/2011 – The May 28th gig at The Oddfellows in Pulborough was a stormer! Lots of you turned up, and brought friends with you, which was terrific. Some people were even there quite early (you can stop apologising now, Debbie), which is a tribute to their stamina, as after three encores and a late finish they were still there at the end.  We are already booked to be back there again on November the 12th, and Chris has promised to bring a matching set of drums this time - can’t wait!

NEW GIG!!!

We are back at the Queens Head in Kingston on July the 8th – see the gig guide for details!

The last news piece informed you that the Queen Vic gig in Shalford was rescheduled – unfortunately we have now had to reschedule the North Star gig in Staines on October 1st. No new date yet, but unfortunately it probably won’t be until the New Year. We will keep you posted, of course.

We are now on Lemonrock! so much has been said about it by other bands and venues we thought we should be on it. It’s a great site to find out where your favourite band is playing, or just find a gig near you for the evening. Check it out, let us know what you think.

More gigs coming up for the Autumn but not finalised (Prestonville, Stag, Ranelagh etc.) so watch this space or your email if you’re on our list – if you’re not on it, why not?

14/05/2011 – The Queen Vic gig scheduled for June has unfortunately had to be rearranged – Steve has been called away to work at short notice (abroad – the jet-setter!). Sadly this means the earliest available date is September, so September the 23rd it is!

30/04/2011 – Check out the “Listen to The Jackals” page! It now has excerpts from current versions of six tracks from the “From The Start” album. If you want to hear the whole thing, come to a gig soon and buy a copy!

03/04/2011 – Staurday is definitely on for us – we should be on at about 8.00pm. There are several other bands on the bill, and it is an all day event from 10.00am run by the Britona guys called “Spring Rock – Bikes and Bands” and it’s in aid of the Mayors charities. See the events lisitng at www.hovecentre.co.uk for full details. Hope to see some of you there!

08/03/2011 – Back at the Queen Vic in Shalford on the 10th June – a Friday this time: as usual, see the gig guide for details!

27/03/2011 – Friday’s Gary Moore Tribtue night was a sell out success:  four bands, a great atmosphere and a packed venue – you could almost see the steam rising from the crowd! The Jackals played a more laid back set than the other bands which made a good contrast that the audience really enjoyed, and  Phil even  won a prize in the raffle! Saturdays gig at the Stag also went well,  a try out for some new songs like Little Wing that we have been working on for a while; we are back there in June. New venue next week, The Cricketers at Addlestone on Saturday – new venues are always something The Jackals look forward to, so we are raring to go!

20/03/2011 – Don’t forget this coming Friday is the Gary Moore tribute night at The Brunswick in Brighton – four bands on the bill, The Jackals are on at 9.00pm. Admission by ticket only, available from the venue, but selling fast. Numbers are limited, so buy in advance or check before you arrive to avoid disappointment. It’s a charity event with he proceeds going to Chestnut Tree House so we are all hoping it will be  a sell out! If you can’t make it, The Jackals are at The Stag in Kemp Town on Saturday.

01/03/2011 – Just  a brief newsflash – we will be back at The Oddfellows Arms in Pulborough on Saturday May 28th (bank holiday weekend) – as usual see the gig guide for details!

27/02/2011 – The Jackals wowed The Oddfellows Arms last night: another great venue and a big enthusiastic crowd who insisted on a second encore (oh allright then, if we must!) so we finished with the Thrill Is Gone, which we had never played before. Went down really well, and the band enjoyed it too, so it will definitley be appearing in the setlist before too long. We even sold some CD’s of our new album, “From The Start”, which will be available at all our gigs for just £5 – fantastic value, get yours soon!

The Jackals will be appearing at two charity events soon, the first on Friday, 25th March at The Brunswick in Hove. I’ts a Gary Moore tribute night, tickets are £5 from the venue and all proceeds go to Chestnut Tree House, the childrens Hospice. Three bands and a late bar ’till 2.00am. See the venue website for further details: www.thebrunswickpub.co.uk . Tickets are selling fast apparently, so get yours now! The second event is Easter Saturday at Hove Town Hall – custom bike show during the day and bands in the evening. We are awaiting further details at present, so keep an eye on  The Jackals news page.

04/02/2011 – Slight change of plan! Unfortunately there has been a mix up with the Queens Head in Kingston – the 25th of March has had to be rearranged, and the gig is now on Friday the 6th of May. That’s showbusiness, folks! Our spot as first live band at the Sportsman last night was great, crowd enjoyed it, we enjoyed it, nice pub, nice people. There is the possibility of a Sunday afternoon open air gig there in the summer, so watch this space!

30/01/2011 – More good news! Yet more new venues for The Jackals, the Cardinal Wolsey in Hampton Court and the  The Queens Head in Kingston. The Queens Head is on Friday 25th March, and the Cardinal Wolsey is on Friday the 8th April, so two Friday/Saturday night combos with a Saturday night gig at The Cricketers in Addlestone in the middle! Phew! As usual, see the gig guide for details. We have also been working on new material including Down at the Doctors, another classic Dr Feelgood track, and Jimi Hendrix’ Little Wing - great songs both of them which we are sure you’ll love. Catch them at a gig near you soon!

20/01/2011 – Good news! The postponed gig at The Cricketers in Addlestone has been rearranged for Saturday the 2nd of April. See the gig guide for details.

18/01/2011 – Unfortunately the gig at The Cricketers in Addlestone on the 12th March has been postponed. We are hoping to rearrange it for early April, but we’ve managed to slot in a return gig at The Queen Vic in Shalford. You may recall Martin stepped in on Drums last time because due to the snow Chris couldn’t get there, so this will be the first time we’ve played there with the full team! As usual, see the gig guide for details.

16/01/11 – Another great gig last night, at the Stag in Kemptown, Brighton – lots of people dancing and having a good time, just what The Jackals like to see! Went down so well, in fact, that we’ve already been booked to return on the 26th March. Slightly later start then usual, 9.00pm and  probably a slightly different format: three sets 0f about 45 mins with two breaks, to finish at 12.00pm . Can’t wait! Artwork is underway for the CD cover, the album will be called “From The Start” and should be available soon. We are also mixing a six track taster CD for promo purposes so if you think of a venue that we should send one to, drop us an e-mail. Next gig is The Sportsman at Amberley, Thursday 3rd Feb. Check the gig guide for the rest!

07/01/11 – Happy New Year to you all! The Jackals have been back to Eversfield Studios to remix the recordings we made there, and the result is even better than we hoped for. Some tracks will be uploaded to the ‘Listen to The Jackals’ page very soon. We have also been working on some new songs ready for The Stag next week.

NEW GIGS!NEW GIGS!NEW GIGS!  – We have two new gigs  – The Sportsman Inn at Amberley, West Sussex on the 3rd Feb – yes, it’s a Thursday, and Saturday 9th April back at our old favourite, The Prestonville Arms in Brighton. As usual, see the gig page for details. We will also be back at The Queen Vic  in Shalford very soon.

Best Wishes to you all for the New Year , and hope to see you at a gig soon, from Jez, Steve, Phil and Chris.

18/12/2010 - Great gig last night at The Queen Vic, Shalford, a really nice friendly pub with nice friendly people! Chris the drummer got stuck in the snow, and couldn’t make it. We were apologising to Deryk about having to cancel when a voice announced “Hi, I’m Martin and I’m a drummer, my kit is only a few minutes away and if you like I’ll stand in and we’ll have a go!” We took about 30 seconds to say ”Yes, Please!” and it all went very well. People danced, people clapped and everyone had a good time. We can’t thank Martin enough – top bloke! The Jackals will return to the Queen Vic as a full lineup early on in the New Year – keep an eye on the gig guide. Speaking of which, there are some new dates in the guide, so check them out.

7/12/10 – The Jackals had a great day yesterday in the recording studio – Graham at Eversfield Studios (www.eversfieldstudio.co.uk) was so helpful and we recorded ten tracks for a CD which will be available at gigs soon – first mix was done on the day (and into the evening actually) and it sounds fantastic! Some of the tracks will be on the website, so keep checking the Listen to The Jackals page.

New Gig!! - We also have a new gig on 17th December: another new venue, The Queen Vic at Shalford Nr. Guildford , so we hope to see you there!

29/11/10  – Two good gigs this last weekend – great crowd at The Prestonville and a smaller but very appreciative audience at The Freeholders – especially the dancers! We will be back at the Prestonville fairly early in the New Year, and hopefully back at The Freeholders before too long.  The Stag in Kemptown Brighton is coming up soon, should be a good party night atmosphere there, and a new venue in February – The Oddfellows Arms in Pulborough – local venue for Phil so a good showing expected. Possible gig at the Queen Vic in Shalford before Christmas, watch this section and the gig guide!

Last year (2009) commemorated the 15th anniversaries of the deaths of two of our featured artists, namely Rory Gallagher and Lee Brilleaux both of whom died in 1994. Dr Feelgood feature strongly in our sets as we love their music and the energy it has. Dr Feelgood tracks always go down well and really get people into a mood for the evening.

Not much more to report at present except that we are working on our third set which should include some stomping numbers from Joe Bonamasa, and Taj Mahal…watch this space or go to gigs to see what we are currently playing.
